Helen Shepherd presents a report to the Governing Body on Pioneer Ministry
Helen Shepherd presented her report on Pioneer Ministry and highlighted the success of the Llais Pioneer Conference held back in April this year.
Llais 2019, was organised by St Padarn’s Institute, the training body of the Church in Wales. It was chaired by the Bishop of Bangor, Andy John.
He said at the time , “Pioneer ministry is about connecting with the community beyond the church – meeting people where they are rather than expecting them to turn up to the church building on a Sunday. From working with farmers in a cattle market to disadvantaged families on housing estates, our pioneers build relationships with the wider community and look for imaginative ways to share faith and develop Christian community that are appropriate to these groups.”
The delegates were joined by Jonny Baker who heads up mission training at the Church Mission Society.
Helen Shepherd stressed in her report the importance of Pioneer ministry in developing the church within the wider community, and those not reached by traditional church.
