Overview of Volunteer Chaplaincy
Volunteer Chaplaincy is a three-day residential induction course focused on chaplains engaged in health or social care. There are no academic entry requirements. Chaplains are welcome to apply, regardless of their chaplaincy specialism, religion or belief.
Volunteer Chaplaincy has been designed around the United Kingdom healthcare experience and its built around the UKBHC Competencies framework. The course supports chaplains in being safe and effective practitioners, able to make a distinctive contribution. Our facilitated reflective groups allows students to work alongside peers with experience.
We will focus on:
- acute and generic healthcare
- mental health
Volunteer Chaplaincy has been designed to complement in-house induction programmes and local management.
How the course is delivered
To meet the needs of volunteers , teaching is over three consecutive days. Residentials take place from Saturday to Tuesday at our Cardiff site, where we enjoy an extensive library and well equipped teaching rooms.
Our accommodation is en-suite and you are welcome to worship alongside members of out theological college in our attractive Chapel.
|Monday 20 May – Wednesday 22 May 2024
Students may choose to complete an optional essay on a theme related to your chaplaincy experience. This has the same title and requirements as the one provided for students seeking to evidence their suitability for our postgraduate programme.
You will be studying alongside professional chaplains who by their nature tend to be welcoming and respectful of a range of opinions. There are however some distinctively Christian aspects of the programme that may not suit everyone:
- lectures will start and end with a short Christian prayer
- most students are Christian ministers, and therefore will naturally express themselves using Christian ministry however Chaplains from other faiths are welcome to attend. We usually start and finish each day with an act of worship, but we will direct you to your chosen place of worship.
