I am married to The Revd Dr Donna Lazenby. We have twin boys who are full of life and way too much energy. In the ‘secular’ world I was a manager of a business in London for 16 years where innovation and an entrepreneurial spirit were promoted and seen as the norm.
My ministry within the Church has embraced many traditions, ages, backgrounds, cultures, and locations. I have been a licensed Reader, a Parish Priest, a Church Planter, an Area Director of Ordinands in Southwark Diocese. I have launched many Fresh Expressions of Church (across traditions). I have been a Consultant Pioneer Priest for the Diocese of Truro, helping to plant a Network of Resource Churches across Cornwall to revitalise mission and ministry and to renew the witness of the Church for this generation. I have facilitated Bishop Ric Thorpe’s Church Planting Course for Exeter Diocese, and Truro Diocese. As a Digital Evangelist I have enabled many Churches and a number of Dioceses to consider Digital Technology as a tool for evangelism.
I am a member of the Archbishop’s College of Evangelists and am the founder of the God Stories Today YouTube Channel. I am also a Church Growth Coach and I have worked alongside various Churches of many traditions, in London Diocese and enabled them to plan for growth: I am called to enable growth across God’s Church, and to equip its outreach in the 21st Century. It is my deepest desire to see development and growth that embraces the whole Church and the whole people of God.
My work at St Padarn's
As the Convenor of the Pioneer Community and Tutor in Contextual Training my roles are to be the focal point for the support and development of pioneer ministers and ministry in the Church in Wales, and to ensure the best outcomes from the use of contextual placements within ministerial training. At its heart is networking, coaching, enthusing and shaping the support of ministers and their development in this changing landscape and to have the joy of seeing individuals develop in their vocation, confidence and skills.
Ministerial Interests
I am a Pioneer Evangelist Priest. Of course this can be expressed in many ways, but for me it has particularly involved Church Planting. In some sense this came as a delightful surprise as my ministry developed. There was a little sign of this charism during my time in the discernment process and it has become a focus.
I have a heart for vocations and vocations development. I believe this is a calling and is connected to my heart for people, relationship building, building teams, the restoration of relationships, and of embracing people from all walks of life. I am a natural networker and have a gift for identifying people’s gifts and enabling them to be set free to embrace them into a new vision for their future. Perhaps connected to my heart vocational development, is my passion for coaching. This is currently expressed at a Church Growth Coach, and in my work for St Padarn’s.
I am deeply interested in the power of Story, in particular for evangelism. Currently I principally express this interest via digital technology and interviewing people for their God Stories.
