MA in Theology, Ministry and Mission
Programme overview
Duration: 3 years
- Years 1-2: taught modules
- Year 3: additional input and dissertation writing
Study pattern: Three intensive residential blocks per year, running Monday to Wednesday with 9 days on site per year in total. Residential teaching takes place at St Padarn’s in Cardiff.
The programme is validated by Durham University Common Awards.

The programme is delivered in 3 residential blocks a year held Monday to Wednesday at St Padarn's Institute, Cardiff

What modules will I study
Year 1
Research and Reflection: Resources and Methods
Learn essential research skills, including how to find, evaluate and analyse information for postgraduate study.
Theology and Spirituality of the Child
Explore theological understandings of childhood, spirituality and faith formation.
Development of the Church's Work with Children, Young People and Families
Examine the history of children's and family ministry and consider future opportunities and challenges.
Year 2
Ministry and Mission with Children, Young People and Families
Explore contemporary approaches to mission and ministry in changing contexts.
Reflective Practice: Leadership and Collaboration
Develop leadership, strategy and collaborative ministry skills.
Independent Learning Project
Undertake supervised research in an area of theology, ministry or mission that interests you.
Year 3
Dissertation in Theology, Ministry and Mission
Complete a 15,000-word dissertation on a topic of your choice.
Residential Dates
On-site study: 9 days per year
Location: St Padarn's Institute, Cardiff
Accommodation: En-suite accommodation available on site and is charges are additional to your fees and charged fully inclusive at £180 per residential, full-board.

Fees
Course fees are spread over 3 years. For students beginning their studies in 2026/2027 the following course fees will apply:

Entry Requirements
- Normally a 2:1 degree or equivalent.Significant experience in children's, youth or family ministry may be considered in place of traditional academic qualifications.
- Please contact us if you would like to discuss your eligibility.
Closing date for applications is the end of July
International Students
St Padarn's does not hold a Student Visa (formerly Tier 4) sponsorship licence.
However, because teaching is delivered through short residential blocks, applications from overseas students who can attend using the appropriate visitor arrangements will be considered.
Additional fee: £500 per year for students without the right to remain in the UK.
