Dr Charlie Shepherd
A little about me
I am the Director of Learning Strategy, Resources, and New Technology at St Padarn’s. I studied theology and philosophy at Whitworth University (2004), taught biblical languages at a seminary in Minneapolis (‘04-‘06), and following this, moved to Cameroon, West Africa, to lecture at a seminary in the village of Ndu (‘06-‘08). While living in Cameroon I discovered the thrilling and life-changing field of philosophical and textual hermeneutics, which through an MA and PhD at Durham University became my professional area of expertise. I read and write specifically in the areas of philosophical shifts between Modernity and Postmodernity, and the (mis)perceptions of what these shifts imply and entail for reading the Bible as Christian Scripture. After some time lecturing in Durham, I came to Wales.
I continue to engage students in the fields of Hermeneutics, as well as develop and implement our Learning Strategy at St Padarn’s. Part of this latter area is the strategic development of what we offer in terms of resourcing – principally in terms of an increasing digitisation in the broad area of the humanities.
Having grown up in Seattle, I am indelibly marked with a love for mountains, rock climbing, and the Seattle Seahawks. Questions about any of these will be answered at length, and in detail – so be prepared!
